3 Tips for Decorating a Console

Hi Everyone,

Kara has been really great about keeping our online presence going.  I keep promising her I will be better about posting on Facebook and doing some blog posts.  So I decided that I would start posting design tips that everyone can do and may need a little help with. For starters lets talk basic rules for decorating a console table.

3 Tips for Decorating a Console Table

Console Tables are great pieces of furniture to add to your home.  They can create an entry, add dimension behind your sofa, or fill in that blank wall you just can’t figure out how to style.

Today I will demonstrate three different ways to decorate a console. As the base of these designs I'll use this great little table and beautiful Blue Heron Painting the girls got in while Kerry and I were playing in Ireland and Scotland.  The main colors we are using here are coming from the Painting.  We have various colors of blue in the bird’s feathers along with some red accents.  The black lines in the picture are balanced with the black console.  We will pick up the white in the frame and background in our accessories.  When putting colors and accessories together it's important to create balance from top to bottom and side to side. If something doesn’t look quite right it is probably because the balance is off.  (Another Blog Post)

1. Move My Eye Left to Right

In this picture the items on the table are in an Asymmetrical arrangement.  Your eye starts out focusing on the tall oars on the left side. It will then flow across the painting and down to the picture frame and canoe.  Your eye then picks up the antlers on the bottom shelve as they bring the white down from the picture creating balance in the vignette.  Can you see how the colors in the painting are picked up by the accent pieces?
2. How About some Symmetry

In this arrangement the identical tall candle sticks on either side of the table create symmetry.  Instead of your eye flowing from left to right your eye focuses on the whole arrangement.  The blue orbs in the middle pick up the blue from the painting.  We also created symmetry and balance in the design by adding the white shore birds on the bottom shelf bringing down the white from the painting and tying in the bird theme.
3. Creating a Collected Look

Because the heron is a lake bird, we can add a collection of boats and still be cohesive in our design.  We will combine our collection with an asymmetrical design with the tall sailboat on the left and then flowing to the right with a setof wooden sailboats.  The large canoe on the bottom carries our boat theme down and the colors in the canoe balance with the painting.
These are three fun ways to decorate your console table.  You can also apply these tips to your fireplace mantle.
I hope you try some of these tips in your house.

Bear Lake Soap Company

Hello, friends!
Today we want to share with all of you something we really believe in -

all-natural, ultra healing handcrafted skincare products
from the Bear Lake Soap Company
Exclusively at Inspiration Home!

We are a family of ladies looking to change the way you think about skincare by providing high-end luxury all natural beauty products at affordable prices. If that doesn't make your day, we don't know what will! We love seeing the smiles on people's faces when they run back to us letting us know how amazing our products are. We want YOU to experience that luxury and happiness every day!

It all started when Lori took a trip to Kauai. She happened to stop into a little shop that sold handmade soaps. None of us had ever ventured to try a handmade soap before, but she decided to be brave and try it out. She loved it!

Not only did she love how pretty they looked and how nice they smelled, but also how the soap made her skin fill moisturized and soft all day long.

(That's right! Soap can do that! Soap!)

Realizing that she had found something amazing, she decided to research what made handmade soap so special.  Armed with some great knowledge, she started creating her own special formula's of all natural soaps, lotions, sugar scrubs, and more. She gave some out to all of us girls plus some friends and coworkers.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive!
Many of her customers had never tried handmade all natural soaps and lotions before either, but once we did, we were hooked! The difference is out of this world! She couldn't make enough to keep us happy. They just kept asking for more and more and more! Just like that the business was born. Now she has us girls to help keep up with orders and insure that our customers get only the finest, most luxurious products using the best high quality all natural ingredients.

If you want to know what its like to feel like a queen every day, then you have got to try our products!
We know you will be hooked!
We certainly are!!!

Bear Lake Soap Co specializes in creating all natural products with no harsh chemicals, preservatives, or dyes. All our oils used in our soaps and lotions have natural healing properties which is what makes a HUGE difference in your skin.

We have seen chapped hands heal up in days,
scars and stretch marks soften and fade,
and overall complexion improve to the point of needing
little or no makeup!

"I used the body butter everyday during my pregnancy and
didn't get any stretch marks!"   ~Kara Koeven

The Secret is in the Oils
The thing that makes our soaps and lotions different than any other is that they are formulated with the highest quality natural oils and local organic bees wax with no preservatives, harsh chemicals, or dyes. We do not use water as a preservative because it 'water's' it down. The result is that you are covering your skin with the best natural-healing oils mother nature can provide.  Not just one oil, but several in every formula!

Unlike other recipes out there that leave your skin feeling greasy, our special formulas leave your skin feeling silky smooth all day long! Who wouldn't want that for summer?!

We are super excited (and hopelessly addicted) to this line of everyday beauty care, and we know you will be too!

The Anatomy of a Nursery Part 1

Hi, everyone!

It's Kara, here, to show you how we created a super cute nursery for little Rena through the e-design services at inspiration home.  I am so happy with how it turned out, and so is Rea :)

As with any design, you have to first decide the look you are going for. In our case, we knew long before we got pregnant that we wanted a woodland animals theme. So we had Lori create a neutral design with the idea that we could simply add accent colors according to what gender the baby would be. Well turns out, she was a girl. (Yay!) So we decided on accent colors of teal, yellow, purple, and corral pink.

The walls were already a light sky blue so we decided to keep it as it created a nice airy and calm space.  To add character and in keeping with the woodland theme we opted for birch tree decals that can easily be removed a few years down the road when baby Rae wants a change to her decor. I LOVE how they turned out! We were concerned at first that they wouldn't stand out well with the light blue walls, but they do. It is a nice soft look, and a great way to bring nature into the space.

In the original design we were only going to have the trees on the North wall. We ended up with 6 trees and only 3 fit the wall, so we decided to put the other 3 on the wall behind the crib.  I am really glad we did. It makes it look like a forest rather than just a few random trees.

The critters hanging in the window are tissue paper critters found at Hobby Lobby; a hedgehog, owl, and fox. They were used as a decoration for our baby shower.
They were so cute we decided to hang them in her room.

We chose this beautiful rug through one of the vendors in our store. If you are in the market for a new rug these are great quality rugs that will last a lifetime! They have designs and colors to perfectly accent any look.  Call us today to look through our catalogs

Pinterest has tons of great examples of nurseries with cute art collages that we fell in love with. We wanted to create something similar for Rae's space. Lori provided great inspiration in the design. For unique and fun art, etsy is a great place to shop! There are so many great artists out there with amazing talents. Plus you can find a lot of great art for very little cost!

While I loved what Lori found for art, I ended up doing a lot of it myself. I had some art already that I wanted to include in the collage. I also painted some feathers that ended up going here as well. I added a few digital downloads bought from etsy to balance it out, and this is how it all turned out.

We took a couple of shed antlers that we found years ago, spray painted them pink and adhered them to a wall mount. Then I decorated the base with silk flowers.

I painted this bunny painting years ago for my husbands birthday but we never could find a place in the house to put it, until now. It just made sense to bring it in here for Rae.

The feathers, below, were a super fun project! I simply bought a package of feathers from the craft store and painted them with acrylic craft paints. They turned out so bright and fun!

I asked my sister to make a mobile for Rae's room. I gave her a couple of inspiration photos of mobile's made from felt animals as a starting point. Here is what she came up with.

It's a little hard to see in this picture, but there are three adorable little birds and three little bunnies. We hung them with fishing line from a branch my husband found while taking the dog out for a hike. I love the organic look of this mobile.
Plus it's one of a kind and made by my sister!

Overall, I love how this space turned out. We still have a few more things to add to the space which we will post here when they are done.

You won't want to miss the upcoming post on how Lori created and designed the fabric that will be made into curtains and bedding!!
