The Anatomy of a Nursery Part 1

Hi, everyone!

It's Kara, here, to show you how we created a super cute nursery for little Rena through the e-design services at inspiration home.  I am so happy with how it turned out, and so is Rea :)

As with any design, you have to first decide the look you are going for. In our case, we knew long before we got pregnant that we wanted a woodland animals theme. So we had Lori create a neutral design with the idea that we could simply add accent colors according to what gender the baby would be. Well turns out, she was a girl. (Yay!) So we decided on accent colors of teal, yellow, purple, and corral pink.

The walls were already a light sky blue so we decided to keep it as it created a nice airy and calm space.  To add character and in keeping with the woodland theme we opted for birch tree decals that can easily be removed a few years down the road when baby Rae wants a change to her decor. I LOVE how they turned out! We were concerned at first that they wouldn't stand out well with the light blue walls, but they do. It is a nice soft look, and a great way to bring nature into the space.

In the original design we were only going to have the trees on the North wall. We ended up with 6 trees and only 3 fit the wall, so we decided to put the other 3 on the wall behind the crib.  I am really glad we did. It makes it look like a forest rather than just a few random trees.

The critters hanging in the window are tissue paper critters found at Hobby Lobby; a hedgehog, owl, and fox. They were used as a decoration for our baby shower.
They were so cute we decided to hang them in her room.

We chose this beautiful rug through one of the vendors in our store. If you are in the market for a new rug these are great quality rugs that will last a lifetime! They have designs and colors to perfectly accent any look.  Call us today to look through our catalogs

Pinterest has tons of great examples of nurseries with cute art collages that we fell in love with. We wanted to create something similar for Rae's space. Lori provided great inspiration in the design. For unique and fun art, etsy is a great place to shop! There are so many great artists out there with amazing talents. Plus you can find a lot of great art for very little cost!

While I loved what Lori found for art, I ended up doing a lot of it myself. I had some art already that I wanted to include in the collage. I also painted some feathers that ended up going here as well. I added a few digital downloads bought from etsy to balance it out, and this is how it all turned out.

We took a couple of shed antlers that we found years ago, spray painted them pink and adhered them to a wall mount. Then I decorated the base with silk flowers.

I painted this bunny painting years ago for my husbands birthday but we never could find a place in the house to put it, until now. It just made sense to bring it in here for Rae.

The feathers, below, were a super fun project! I simply bought a package of feathers from the craft store and painted them with acrylic craft paints. They turned out so bright and fun!

I asked my sister to make a mobile for Rae's room. I gave her a couple of inspiration photos of mobile's made from felt animals as a starting point. Here is what she came up with.

It's a little hard to see in this picture, but there are three adorable little birds and three little bunnies. We hung them with fishing line from a branch my husband found while taking the dog out for a hike. I love the organic look of this mobile.
Plus it's one of a kind and made by my sister!

Overall, I love how this space turned out. We still have a few more things to add to the space which we will post here when they are done.

You won't want to miss the upcoming post on how Lori created and designed the fabric that will be made into curtains and bedding!!
